5 Things you Didn’t Know About Laser Printing

If you’ve ever written an essay, applied for a job, had a garage sale or even lost a beloved pet, chances are, you’ve used a laser printer at some point in your life. We come into contact with these machines often, but there are still some things we don’t know about them. Check out the following five facts you might not know about laser printers.

1. The amount of discarded cartridges can circle the Earth over 3 times! Even though almost 70% of the parts of a printer cartridge are recyclable, most still end up in landfills. That’s not okay, people! Make sure to check out our sustainability pledge and remember to recycle your cartridges and printers!

2. Laser printer fusers heat up to a temperature of nearly 400ºF to fuse the toner to paper. The paper must move as fast as possible through the rollers so that it does not have time to burn. Talk about hot off the press!

3. When it comes to printing pages of black and white text, laser printing is pretty much unbeatable. It’s hard to top the look of a crisply printed page, right?

4. IBM produced the first commercial laser printer in 1976. It cost almost $20,000 and printed just under 200 pages per minute.

5. Different types of toners are made for specific laser printers. The toners are comprised of microscopic plastic spheres that are specifically tuned to the electromagnetic charges of the laser printer they are intended for. Whoa, science.
